Settling in...
As you can see... Sylvester is settling in quite nicely. There's still a long way to go. He still spooks easily at times with the dogs around. He still isn't best buds with Mooz. But he's getting quite comfortable.
Loves sitting on the desk...
Lianne took this one earlier today while cleaning out some clutter. Mooz and Sylvester do seem to be getting along a little bit better now. After one week they're already way ahead of where Mooz and Millie were with each other.

There used to be plants there...
A couple of them jumped off yesterday. What a MESS! Plants and pots were all fine, just dirt EVERYWHERE. We gave in and moved the plants.
There also used to be a picture hanging there. Someone thought it would make a fun toy. It disappeared before he got to play...

Getting to know you

This morning, while drinking my coffee before work, our dog Rebel decided to lie down next to where I was sitting. I noticed his pose was a little bit like the Ferrari logo, so being the car fanatic that I am, I had to take a picture. This turned out to be one of those right place, right time, kind of moments. As I was taking the picture our newest family member walked in the room and got a good up close and personal look at Rebel. This was by far the best interaction he's had with Rebel yet. I was quite lucky to have my phone already in camera mode. If that hadn't been the case, I would have missed this photo opp.

A few pics from this evening
Sylvester had free reign of the house today. This wasn't entirely on purpose! The third floor is a dog-free zone, so he had a safe place to hang out. I can see he had fun tearing the room up - area rugs flipped everywhere, a partially unraveled ball of twine, part of my stockpile de-shelved, etc. He was also free to explore, although I can't tell if he did or not.
Emotional Weekend
So we've now made it through the first couple nights with Sylvester. It's been fun. Not much sleep, but still fun.
One thing I didn't count on was how much energy he would have. We haven't had a cat this young since Mooz was this age... and that was about 8 years ago. He loves chasing toy mice. I can sit and throw these things all day and he is perfectly happy to shoot off like a rocket in the same direction. He also loves launching things (thankfully nothing breakable yet) off of tables, desks and counter tops.
The other thing I didn't count on was the emotions. I didn't expect it to hit so hard. Losing Millie was tough. I look at Sylvester and see a completely different cat. But there are occasions when I've looked at him and seen Millie. They have the same eyes. So, while I'm really enjoying time with my new buddy, I'm still also grieving the loss of my old friend. Which means it was a real emotional roller coaster ride over the weekend.
The more time I spend with Sylvester, the more I'll make new memories with him.
So far, so good. :)

No sleep for Dave!
Dave and Sylvester spent the night closed in on the third floor. Poor Dave hardly got any sleep between the cat that wanted to cuddle and the cat that wanted to explore!
We forgot what it was like to have a young, energetic cat around. He's getting into EVERYTHING! Lot's of new things to explore here.
Lesson number one: you are NOT a turtle!!

The Wait is Over!

Ok, the easy part is done and over with. Finding a new cat was easy. Well, aside from dealing with a slow rescue group that didn't seem eager to part with the cats they had in foster care, it was easy.
The hard part today was taking a cat that was obviously loved by his previous owner. I could tell it wasn't easy for him to say goodbye.
The tricky part now is getting our newest family member, Sylvester, acclimated to his new surroundings. He is really spooked by the dogs at the moment, and hasn't even met Mooz (our tiger cat) yet.
We just had some fun time with a milk ring and a laser toy, so it appears he's going to adjust fine. It will just take a little time.

Maybe?
So, in my last post I griped about scheduling with a third party being a downright hassle. The cat rescue group seemed very unorganized.
During the exchanges between Lianne and the rescue organization, a member of the local freecycle group posted a message on the message board that he needed help finding a home for his cat.
Lianne contacted him, and to make a long story short, we went and visited the cat tonight.
This cat was so friendly, and very curious. Absolutely beautiful cat. I won't go in to too much detail, as I don't want to count any chickens before they hatch. But we might be welcoming a new member to our family at the end of the week.
As for the rescue group, we'll still support their efforts, but it looks like we may not adopt from them.

The Adventure Continues
So Lianne and I have been waiting to meet some of these cats we've seen online. Lianne has been in contact with a volunteer with the shelter off and on the last couple weeks. Right now those cats are in a foster home. The trouble we've been having is coordinating a time for us to meet the cats that are in foster care. The volunteer she's been working with isn't the same person as the person housing these cats. So scheduling with a third party has been downright impossible. It kind of has me bummed. I see these cats on the website that just look so lovable and I find it hard to believe that people don't want to snatch them up. Which makes me want to get this done so at least one of them can have a great home with us.
